North Carolina law states that if you are offered insurance and refuse it, you don't get a refund if you can't come. Here is what that means: If a hurricane is coming and they close the island, then if you have insurance, the insurance pays you for the rental costs. If you don't have insurance, you are out of luck. The money is NOT coming back.
There are two types of insurance. The first is for hurricanes. The second, THE ONE YOU WANT, is for any and all problems.
Let's talk about "any and all problems".
July/August 2017 Power Failure
On July 27, 2017 the company building the new Bonner Bridge, the big bridge that puts you on Hatteras Island, stored a steel casing by poking it in the water just off the work site and into the seabed below. That piling cut two of three wires supplying power to the islands. A mandatory evacuation was put into place. THOUSANDS of vacationers were forced to leave. THOUSANDS more were denied entry. This was for Ocracoke, Buxton, Frisco, Avon, Rodanthe, Salvo and Waves. Power was restored and the Island opened on August 4, nine days later.
If during this emergency you had the any and all insurance, you were covered. You were reimbursed for the cost of the rental.
If you had no coverage or just hurricane coverage, you were not covered.
October 25, 1990 Bridge Failure
On October 25, 1990, a nor'easter packing ninety mile-per-hour gusts ripped away a work barge that rammed the Bonner Bridge. It was out for three and a half months.
If during this emergency you had the any and all insurance, you were covered. You were reimbursed for the cost of the rental.
If you had no coverage or just hurricane coverage, you were not covered.
